Michael's Green Philosophy

Being raised by a depression era family, I have always embraced the ideas of conservation and reuse. I gained a lot of my knowledge and creativity from my grandfather who could fix anything or make it out of miscellaneous pieces and parts.

My degree in interior design/environmental design from ECU encompassed not only the structure, function, ergonomics, and aesthetics of design, but also the physical environment and comfort of a space. During this period, sustainable energy practices were just emerging and were incorporated into our design projects.

Green design has always been a part of my design philosophy from creative reuse of a client's existing furnishings to incorporating holding bins for recyclable items. The resurgence of sustainable resources has given both the designers and clients the ability to create healthier and more efficient environments. Green design practices not only save energy, but they also save the client money too.
